The aging process involves many changes to our skin. Our facial fat reduces as well as our natural skin elasticity, this is due to the degradation of collagen and as a result skin becomes more fragile. As we lose natural volume we develop wrinkles and folds. The more dynamic and moveable areas of the face are often affected first, for example smile lines. Skin will eventually begin to sag and wrinkles will start to appear that deepen and become more prominent over time. To reduce these signs of aging we use dermal fillers to add volume and smoothen lines and folds.
Dermal filler is made up of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance that is produced by the body. Hyaluronic transfers essential nutrients from the bloodstream to the skin cells, while bringing in hydration and adding volume to the skin. Hyaluronic acid supports the facial structures and tissues and encourages water to the surface of this skin to maintain suppleness and a fresher appearance.
The longevity of fillers depends on the type of product used. Here at Rachel Moorhouse medical aesthetics we only use premium fillers such as juvederm, restylane, belotero and teosyal which last 6-18 months depending on the products used. This is discussed in more detail at consultation once we ascertain the products you need.
Dermal fillers can help to improve the appearance of smile lines, nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines), lip lines, deep folds and wrinkles, sunken cheeks, cheekbones, lip volume, the chin, the jaw and the reshaping of the nose.
This depends on the area being treated. A needle or a cannula will be used and a topical numbing cream applied prior to the injections.
Results are visible straight away however there will be some swelling present. The full results will be seen when the swelling has subsided.
